The MIMIC

MIMIC is a Roblox survival horror game by CTStudios, directed by MUCDICH. Spanning four ominous books—Rebirth, Jealousy, Rage, and Control—the game starts by bringing the player back to an old high school where they are looking for missing peers. But something malevolent is lurking. Hiachi is the first creature you come into contact with, yet she is just one part of something bigger, darker. Sama is one of the four World Devourers who are capable of controlling cursed people, with one exception being you. You’ve managed to break the curse and need to survive her dark world to learn the truth.

My Role

Although I'm not on the project anymore, I did contribute to The MIMIC during its early stages. I began freelancing for CTStudios in 2020 as a freelance coder and was a member of a four-member team of devs. My responsibilities were predominantly on designing and testing animations, environments, and 3D models. It was also where I was introduced to Blender for 3D modeling and Lua scripting in Roblox Studio, both skills I picked up quickly.

What I Contributed

During my time on the project, I worked on refining the game’s ambiance and playing experience. I assisted in animating characters so as to increase the feeling of apprehension, and I worked together with the team to create environments which were eerie yet immersive. I also tested and added different assets, ensuring they worked seamlessly inside the Roblox engine and matched the art direction of the game. Key highlights of what I added include:

Asset and Animation Development

Cosmetic Lantern Asset Build 1.0

Nagisa Blender Animation Build 1.2

Nagisa The Sea Serpent (Final Render).

Animation Tests

Run Animation Test.

Cosmetic Lantern Animation Test.

Hiachi (Boss Battle), AI Movement Test

Looking Back

Although I’m no longer involved with The MIMIC, I look back on the project as an important step in my growth as a game developer. It gave me hands-on experience with storytelling through gameplay, as well as practical technical skills in animation, scripting, and 3D modeling.
